October's Full Moon is often referred to as the Full
Hunter's Moon or Full Harvest Moon. The
name is derived from the Native Americans for a number of obvious reasons. This season was perfect for the hunter gathering
meat, the falling leaves allowed for more visibility to see any prey they were
hunting. The Native Americans also
recognized that this moon was to begin of the start of the long winter and in
most cases was celebrated with feasts and special honors.
During this October's Full Harvest Moon we are going to be experiencing a rare and exceptional occurrence. There will be a total Lunar Eclipse and the Draconids Meteor Shower happening on the same night as the Full Moon. This means you will be working with an extraordinary moon energy (a wonderful time to release negative energy and letting things go).
A lunar eclipse can only happen when there is a Full Moon and occurs when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon. During the eclipse some suggest that you will experience a full month of Moon energy. The moon is full, then partially or completely hidden, and then visible again. Within minutes the energy would be similar to a complete cycle of all the Moon phases. You can use this information to develop your own, tailor-made spells, rituals and rites.
The lunar eclipse often will challenge your emotional readiness for change, during this time you will face some of your insecurities and reluctance. This is a wonderful time to reflect on the past and observe the root causes to these insecurities/fears, how they link to you and your emotions. The lunar eclipse is also a great time work on your psychic abilities. As the moon wanes during the eclipse, you could focus on ridding yourself of blocks. As it waxes back to full, you could focus on increasing your psychic skills.
Of course if you are not planning any spellcasting on this night, you can sit in contemplation and meditation on your experiences this past year, also be sure to honor yourself, your family and/or any Deity for which you believe, in preparation for any upcoming changes in your future.
This upcoming Full Moon will be an eventful night full of magic along with an abundance of Moon Energy. Like the lunar eclipse, the Draconids Meteor shower brings its own power and energy and with these three astral occurrences happening together, this will be a great night of spellcasting! Like with any ritual, be prepared and allow the energy to guide you through this wondrous night.
